Blade warns against ‘new opposition’Comment on this story
Johannesburg - SA Communist Party general secretary Blade Nzimande on Friday cautioned against “new characteristics” of opposition forces against the ANC.
“In this election the opposition as one whole had gained new characteristics which we must closely keep in check,” said Nzimande in a speech prepared for delivery at the National Education, Health, and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) special national congress in Boksburg.
“There is a new tendency which, while not directly or openly contesting elections on the ballot... was consistently attacking the ANC, the SACP, and our alliance in its entirety.”
Nzimande said this new section of the opposition had “directly campaigned against and decampaigned” the African Nation Congress-led alliance.
After the elections “some of the forces that we defeated” had spin-doctored the results to make it look as if the ANC had lost and the opposition had won.
He declared this “a new bogus type of South African mathematics”.
The ANC won the national general elections held in May with a majority of 62.15 percent compared to 65.9 percent in 2009.
