Cape Town - The Boston bombings were “despicable”, the ACDP said on Wednesday.

“The [African Christian Democratic Party] shares the world's shock and horror over the cowardly and shameful acts perpetrated by those responsible for the two explosions... ,” ACDP MP Cheryllyn Dudley said in a statement.

Two bombs exploded near the finishing line of the Boston Marathon in Boston, Massachusetts, in the United States, on Monday, killing three people and injuring more than 170 others.

“We extend condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, and to the people and the government of the United States of America,” Dudley said.

“We pray for a speedy recovery for the injured and those traumatised by this despicable action, especially thinking of those who will relive this nightmare as they take part in future races elsewhere in the world.”

US President Barack Obama has called the bombings “heinous and cowardly”.

In an address on Tuesday, he said it was not yet known whether an organisation - either domestic or foreign - or a “malevolent individual” was responsible, and what the motive might have been.
