Cape Town - The city is investigating a report that a council vehicle, complete with full City of Cape Town branding, was seen transporting DA election posters.

Journalist Andisiwe Makinana on Monday morning tweeted that she was driving behind a city council truck that had the posters on it.

Solly Malatsi, former spokesman for Mayor Patricia de Lille, responded by Twitter that the van might have been one that had been auctioned and sold to a member of the public.

Sometimes, after a vehicle was sold, the new owners took their time removing the council branding, he said in a tweet.

Malatsi has left the mayor’s office and is striking out on his own as a DA candidate.

When approached for further comment, Malatsi said he could not talk about it because he had left the mayor’s office and referred enquiries to the mayor’s office.

Priya Reddy, the mayor’s current spokeswoman, said she had been told about the incident and would be investigating it.
