Johannesburg - Cosatu on Sunday expressed its sadness following the death of Michael Coetzee, the secretary of Parliament.

“We send our condolences to his family, friends and fellow workers in Parliament,” Congress of SA Trade Unions spokesman Patrick Craven said.

Coetzee died on Friday night following a battle with cancer.

“Cosatu dips its banners in tribute to a comrade who committed his life to struggling for democracy and then playing a key role in ensuring that it was efficiently administered in Parliament,” Craven said.

He said Coetzee was known for his humility and approachability.

“He continuously sought to work against corruption in all its manifestations, he was deeply pained by the divisions that had taken shape in the movement,” Craven said.
