Cosatu provincial secretary Zet Luzipho said the growing number of black people who voted for the DA "had nothing to do with ANC constituencies finding resonance in the message of the DA".

Black people who voted the DA during the May 18 elections were not former ANC members, Cosatu in KwaZulu-Natal said on Wednesday.

“We strongly believe that the bulk of DA’s black vote is from the smaller black opposition parties that have shown serious decline in the past few years,” said Congress of SA Trade Unions provincial secretary Zet Luzipho.

At a briefing in Durban on the outcome of the local government elections, Luzipho said the growing number of black people who voted for the Democratic Alliance had “nothing to do with ANC constituencies finding resonance in the message of the DA”.

Luzipho said Cosatu was happy with the manner in which the ANC handled the issue of appointing mayors.

“We appreciate the inclusive manner in which they are dealing with the matter of choosing mayoral candidates,” he said in response to reports that ANC, Cosatu and SACP leaders were not unanimous on who should be mayors. - Sapa
