North West - North West municipalities should suspend their managers for not getting clean audits, Cosatu's provincial branch said on Tuesday.

“Cosatu calls for the immediate suspension of all municipal managers who did not get a clean audit, and for the immediate dismissal of those who have not submitted documents,” said Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) North West secretary Solly Phetoe.

He said the non-submission of documents was a deliberate action to conceal evidence of financial irregularity.

It was disappointing that only five percent of the 283 municipalities had got a clean audit, said Phetoe.

For the second consecutive year, none of the 24 local municipalities and four district municipalities in the province had received a clean audit.

The Bojanala Platinum district municipality and Ratlou local municipality received unqualified audit opinions with findings.

Phetoe said for many years Cosatu had pointed out that most of the municipalities did not have capacity.

He said in the North West the appointment of managers was not done based on capacity, but in a “factional way”.

“Now, in the report, none of the municipalities in the North West got a clean audit,” he said. - Sapa
