The controversial DA Students Organisation (DASO) poster.
The DA student wing's poster showing a young mixed race couple in a clinch entrenches the notion of “white supremacy”, Cosatu in KwaZulu-Natal said on Wednesday.
“It entrenches white supremacy that we fought against during the liberation struggle,” said Zet Luzipo, provincial secretary of the Cosatu.
He said the poster, crafted by the DA Students' Organisation, opened up old wounds and it was not about education.
“The posture says join the DA to have an affair with a white person. The DA thinks our struggle for democracy was about the Immorality Act and the Group Areas Act,” Luzipo said.
“We will not be excited with having an affair with a white person; we will not be enticed by that.”
He said if the DA wanted to discuss non-racialism this would be welcomed.
“We must address inequality between black and white learners. We must discuss how far we have come since 1994.”
DA youth leader Makashule Gana said the poster was part of a campaign to create debate about race.
“To say that the poster is sexual is taking it to the extreme. The poster is saying a lot,” Gana said.
“They are embracing each other, and it shows in this country that we can find an opportunity to embrace each other.” – Sapa

It has been almost 20 years since our country declared it's democracy. Yet we still have people looking at the past and not moving on to the future. We have now moved on from the days where gay couples and inter racial couples turns heads. Most of us would've not even noticed this as a shocking picture. Time to move on from the dinasaur era guys!!!

No, I'm not surprised about the reaction of Cosatu but then neither am I really horrified or indignant by it. Cosatu is led by the “Old Guard”, people who remember Apartheid and were involved, in some way or another, in the struggle. They're perhaps ready to forgive but not forget. I don't begrudge them that, they were not the best of times for many South Africans and a lot of the lashing out will be as a reminder that some are not ready to forget. At the same time it doesn't surprise me that the DA would release such a poster. Apart from igniting this level of response from the Old Guard, the poster is aiming at kicking of off the debate about racialism and inter-racialism amongst the student and academic population, which coincidently has a greater proportion of liberal thinkers. The two main political parties in South Africa, the ANC and the DA, represent the socialist and liberal elements and although they're still thought of as the Black and White parties, the DA are the liberals. Who knows, one day they may become known as that.

I wonder if Cosatu has heard of the Rorschach test (they can Google it if they haven't). Like the ACDP's Theunis Botha, they have failed it.

I fail to see 4what the fuss is all about. We have a "mixed" marraige in our family i.e. white & black. She is wonderful and they have 4 of the most lovely children. Is it really necessary to read race into everthing we do?

I very amused by the reaction from black men to this poster. Do black men really believe that black women are their exclusive mindless possessions? Their attitude are an insult to the intelligence of progressive black women. Black men really have a lot of of transformation to do. As for Cosato, how can an organization with such a racist mentality ever talk about "non-racialism". It makes me laugh. Harping on the past is no excuse for this pigmentality!!

people with issues always project those issues in any situation. I think the poster may be unsuited to politics but certainly not intended to show "white supremacy". If that's what all people take from this then who's being the real racist? I'm sure if some guy from the white politician from the vryheidsfront made remarks the mixed couple in this poster then Jabu, badballie and the rest would be denouncing the statement as racist asking what's wrong with showing a mixed couple. Move on guys, buy some pollyfiller for that chip on your shoulder.

who cares who is black and who is white in the poster. only a racist can see something wrong with this poster. COSATU = RACIST

An Affiar?! This poster says nothing about. Its shows two 'People' in an embrace. The only rasist part are Cosatu's comments. Changing to gender of this would make no difference. The only message I get from this, is that mixed race couples are perfectly acceptable and look damn good!

The way I understand this picture is this: The DA says Whites will continue to screw Blacks economically, socially and in every other respects of life in SA. The poster has less to do with sexual relationships than it has with political, economical, financial and social power. The DA uses courts and the so-called constitutional institutions to co-rule the country, although they did not win the elections.
