Johannesburg - The ANC in Limpopo could find itself engulfed by internal strife instead of electioneering if its Youth League in the province does not get its way.

Leaders of the structure on Friday called for disciplinary action against party chairperson and Limpopo premier, Stan Mathabatha.

At the heart of the conflict is the the mayoral candidacy of mineral rich Greater Tubatse municipality in Ga-Sekhukhune.

The league has alleged that Mathabatha unilaterally selected Chorus Phokwane for the contested post, ignoring a PEC decision backing Vincent Shoba.

“Shoba is capable to lead there, more than the rest. Our candidate is Vincent Shoba, we have lobbied for him. The one that the premier was talking about, we do not know him…The chair did not follow correct ANC processes and procedures,” said ANCYL provincial secretary, Che Selane.

He also told Independent Media that the league had begun engagements with Luthuli House to find out how it ratified a decision that did not emanate from the correct organisational processes.

ANC Limpopo spokesperson Aluwani Netsianda refused to address the allegations against the chairperson, saying they would deal with the matter internally.
