Johannesburg - The DA will not be able to solve Johannesburg's billing crisis, the city said on Wednesday.
The city had a contract agreement with its customers, so the Democratic Alliance could not resolve queries on its behalf, spokeswoman Zoleka Zide said.
“We appeal to our customers not to be misled by the promises of political parties, pressure groups, that they are able to resolve issues outside the city-established channels.”
She was responding to the DA's complaint that Gauteng finance mayoral committee member Geoffrey Makhubo refused to accept more than 3000 unresolved billing queries from the party.
DA Johannesburg caucus leader Mmusi Maimane said they had collected the bills from taxpayers who had been waiting for a response from the city.
Zide said they were not going to give preferential treatment to any person or political organisation.
“There are no shortcuts that can be offered by ‘shadowy intermediaries’ that will bypass the process or offer preferential treatment.”
Residents were encouraged to use established channels in attempting to resolve billing issues. - Sapa
