Pretoria - Four Democratic Alliance councillors in Tshwane are set to defect to the ANC, the ruling party said on Friday.

“We are going to be welcoming four other DA members to the ANC,” African National Congress deputy chairperson in Tshwane, Mapiti Matsena, said on Friday.

The four would leave the DA in pairs during the next two council meetings.

“We agreed with them not to do it (defect) at the same time. It is going to be two per every council meeting until the elections,” he said.

Four DA councillors from Ekurhuleni and Johannesburg joined the ANC in February.

The two from Ekurhuleni were unveiled on February 11, the day of the DA's march to the ANC's Luthuli House headquarters for real jobs.

The two from Johannesburg were announced on February 27. The pair, Toni Molefe and Sipho Masigo, served as DA proportional representation councillors in the City of Johannesburg. Molefe was DA deputy chief whip and Masigo the party's deputy chairman in Gauteng.

They claimed black people in the DA were not given room to grow.

“D**kies are always deputising... Sipho is the deputy chair; I am the deputy chief whip. Why are d**kies always deputies in the DA?” Molefe asked at the time.
