The controversial DA Students Organisation (DASO) poster.
A DA Student Organisation poster showing a young mixed race couple in a passionate clinch is “shocking”, the Christian Democratic Party said on Tuesday.
“At a stage when the country needs higher levels of morality, the DA launches a poster clearly promoting sexual immorality,” party leader Theunis Botha said.
“There are many ways in which the DA could have projected its image as a non-racial party, rather than using a poster clearly promoting sexual promiscuity.”
Botha said the poster was “distasteful to the extreme” and an insult to the many young people, black and white, who uphold high moral values.
“In a country with high levels of Aids and an overdose of crime, especially the high incidence of farm murders this year, this poster sends the opposite message to the country than needed.”
The poster carried a tagline reading: “In our future you wouldn't look twice”.
It received widespread attention on Monday after it was posted online by DA youth leader Makashule Gana.
Gana said the poster was part of a campaign to create debate about race.
“To say that the poster is sexual is taking it to the extreme. The poster is saying a lot. They are embracing each other, and it shows in this country that we can find an opportunity to embrace each other.
“I don't know why there are negative comments about it. It is a work of art that depicts a future that we (the DA) would want to build.”
Gana put the picture up on his Facebook page, and briefly used it as his Twitter avatar.
The picture elicited differing comments on both social networking sites.
A Facebook user said: “The nakedness completely diverts from the intended message of political togetherness. Unless politics really is all about sex?”
Another user said: “I don’t see something sexual. They did this pic (sic) very well. The pose, the embrace, their expressions. It looks convincing, it looks like love, it looks beautiful.”
One Twitter user asked: “Is the DA campaigning on behalf of white sugar-daddies who go after young native chicks?”
Another tweeted: “In my future, I hope those damn townships are gone in Cape Town and all the blacks have moved into Camps Bay to share that view.” – Sapa

@Jandro...in real life,its tricky to approach white girls, they clucth their bags as soon a you say Hi. While our black women open up to white guys,i even saw one white guy driving a raggedy citi golf with a black mean looking girl

In EC the education system is in shambles, Limpopo no food for patients, where are the opposition parties, when they are needed. Poor provinces do not desrver strong political competition, if these were happening in Gauteng, KZN or CT there will be exciting activity between the parties. Democracy is not working. This is not directed at DA only but all of them they are more than 20 opposition parties in this country.

Congratulations to the DA's marketing machinery. Timing and execution impeccable. I never knew about the DASO and found out on a day when the opposition youth leader is fighting for survival.

I never realised Black GirlWhite Guy until the newspapers started describing it as such. I saw a nude couple with the slogan "In our future you wouldn't look twice". To me this said that we wouldn't look twice at nude people in our future... Are they intent on banning porn then? Or are they saying we will all be asexual and thus wouldn't be interested in nudity?? Or that nudity would be so common that we would bother too much with even looking at it??? Where do they stand on these issues!?

The Christian Democratic Party is right. How low can DA go to promote his agenda? With that attitude is going to loose votes to other parties with higher morals, principles. There is one thousand other different ways to put your point across.
