Rustenburg - The leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA) in North West, Chris Hattingh, will not stand for re-election at the party’s provincial congress, the party said on Monday.

“I have been a provincial leader for 16 years, I feel it is time to hand over to a new leader… I feel the party needs new blood to lead,” said Chris Hattingh.

He said he would support the new provincial leader. The party elective congress would be held in Hartebeespoort Dam on Saturday.

Hattingh would remain a DA Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL).

DA MP, Winston Rabotapi and shadow minister for sport and recreation, would contest the provincial leader post with the party shadow minister of the presidency, Joe Mcgluwa.

Petro Nel would compete for the deputy provincial leader with Jacqueline Theologo, Agnes Tsamai, Carin Visser and Klaas Melamu.

Erna Rossouw and Carin Visser would contest for the provincial chairperson post while Ronald Matlholoa, Klaas Melamu, Petro Nel, Lee-Ann Robinson, Gys Smit, Cornel Dreyer, Ian Hendricks and Ganatius Loate contest for the position of deputy provincial chairperson.

Vangile Sisi Masango, Kate Ross, Agnes Tsamai, Merriam Banda and Gloria Malete will contest for the provincial leader of the DA Women’s Network (Dawn).
