Limpopo - The Democratic Alliance on Thursday welcomed the Public Protector’s investigation of the Limpopo textbook saga.
“We have written to Thuli Madonsela on various occasions calling for her intervention. An investigation is essential to identify the causes and ensure accountability,” said “shadow minister of basic education” Annette Lovemore.
Madonsela told a breakfast briefing on Thursday that she was investigating cases relating to textbooks in three provinces.
These were Free State, Gauteng and Limpopo.
Lovemore said the investigation should also probe the awarding of textbook tenders nationally and service providers EduSolutions and Lebone.
“The flow of monies from EduSolutions back to the province as a result of their negotiation of discounts from publishers, and how the money was spent should also be probed.”
On the recent shredding of books in Seshego, outside of Polokwane, Lovemore said Madonsela should also find out which officials were involved in taking such a decision, and why. - Sapa
