Defence and Military Veterans Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has called on the South African Defence Force Union's Pikkie Greef to be criminally charged.

On Sunday Sandu sent out statement, calling on members of the armed forces to protest against President Jacob Zuma over recent scandals; from the Nkandla upgrades saga to his relationship with the powerful Gupta family.

Sandu has called on Zuma to resign, and on civil society to use mass action to force his resignation.

Greef said: “Sandu finds it absolutely despicable that the Commander in Chief of the armed forces, which is President Jacob Zuma, has been judged by the highest court to have contravened the Constitution and the fact that he now remains in his post and also as Commander in Chief is completely unacceptable.”

But on Monday, Mapisa-Nqakula said: “Whatever political crisis we are having, there's a political solution. If he's mobilizing men and women in uniform, that amounts to a coup d'etat...a coup d'etat will not be allowed in South Africa. If anything, in my view he should be charged”.

She was speaking as she entered the ANC NWC meeting which was held in Cape Town.
