Cape Town – Parliament on Wednesday confirmed the resignation of former Transport Minister Dipuo Peters as a member of the National Assembly.

“The resignation was effective from 31 March,” Parliament said in a statement.

Peters was among the ministers axed last week following President Jacob Zuma’s sweeping reshuffle.

She was replaced by Joe Maswanganyi, a former member of Parliament’s portfolio committee on transport.

Peters was first deployed to Parliament as an MP in 1994 until 1997 when she served in the Northern Cape legislature. She became premier of her home province in 2004, before being appointed Energy Minister in 2009.

In 2013, Zuma reshuffled his cabinet, leading to Peters being appointed transport minister.
