Polokwane - Chairwoman of the public sector doctors at SA Medical Association Dr Phophi Ramathuba has been sworn in as a new member of Limpopo legislature.

This paves her way to becoming Health MEC. Ramathuba was sworn in at the parliamentary village, official residence of MPLs, in Polokwane on Wednesday morning.

Premier Stan Mathabatha is expected to announce a cabinet shake-up later on Wednesday. Those with knowledge of the process say there will not be major changes in the executive council.

Ramathuba would not comment on her possible appointment as Health MEC.

“As for the appointment of Health MEC, that is the prerogative of the premier,” she said.

But she said she was elated for being appointed MPL.

Ramathuba said she will resign from her position at the medical association and as chief executive of the Voortrekker Hospital in Mokopane.
