Sharpeville - The African National Congress manifesto is not an empty promise, deputy secretary general Jesse Duarte said on Sunday.

“We are making a promise to the youth,” she said.

“We want to have 75 percent of procurement from South African companies to create more jobs.”

Duarte was speaking during the 10th anniversary celebration of the Young Communist League of SA in Sharpeville.

She said the party was committed to assisting students with financial aid in order to complete their studies.

The rally was interrupted by rain. Supporters left the stadium while people were speaking, to seek shelter in the buses they came with.

After the rain had stopped, some went back inside to enjoy the music being played. - Sapa
