Durban - A crowd of about 1000 people gathered in Durban's Glebelands stadium in Umlazi on Sunday to await Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema.

Various choral groups performed songs on stage.

The rally, Malema's last in the province before the general election on May 7, is taking place in the stadium near the Glebelands hostels, an African National Congress stronghold.

There was a heavy police presence outside the stadium as supporters awaited Malema.

The rally had been scheduled to start at 10am, but by noon there was no sign of Malema.

A small group with banners danced and sang while others wore EFF t-shirts and waved flags.
