Eastern Cape - ANC members in several Eastern Cape municipalities would soon be “redeployed”, according to a report on Monday.
ANC provincial treasurer Thandiswa Marawu told the Dispatch Online that a weekend lekgotla in East London had taken recommendations to “redeploy comrades” in municipalities where political infighting at the top was compromising service delivery.
“Service delivery is often compromised, not necessarily because there’s no budget, but due to infighting. By the end of March we want to solve those problems,” said Marawu.
Marawu mentioned Buffalo City and Nelson Mandela as among “hotspot” municipalities. Others were Mnquma, based in Butterworth, Mbashe in Dutywa, King Sabata Dalindyebo in Mthatha, Mbizana and Port St Johns.
“Already there are recommendations of redeployment. In some instances we feel there is defiance from councillors,” said Marawu.
“In such instances we decided on redeployment where there’s no hope there will be harmony in that municipality.
“Sometimes the entire troika is not seeing eye to eye or an executive mayor defies the organisation. There are disciplinary processes to take place, then after that there is redeployment of comrades,” said Marawu.
ANC national executive committee memeber Derek Hanekom, MP Stone Sizani and Eastern Cape premier Noxolo Kiviet were among those who attended the lekgotla. - Sapa
