Basic Education director-general, Bobby Soobrayan should be fired, the Equal Education (EE) organisation said on Monday.

“As director-general, Soobrayan is required to exercise day to day oversight for delivery. In this he has manifestly failed,” said chairwoman Yoliswa Dwane.

She said Equal Education was supporting media reports that Soobrayan must be fired.

The New Age reported on Monday that a presidential task team probing the Limpopo textbook saga recommended that he should be fired. President Jacob Zuma’s spokesman Mac Maharaj told the newspaper on Sunday that he could not confirm the recommendations of the report.

He said Zuma would make up his mind once he had finalised everything regarding the investigation into the Limpopo school textbook crisis. - Sapa
