Bloemfontein - The EFF has stood the test of time and survived, party chairman Dali Mpofu said about the party, which is just over a year old, on Tuesday.
“We have stood the test of time... we were told we would last for a month, and a year later, we're still here,” Mpofu said to a loud applause inside the plenary hall at the University of the Free State's Bloemfontein campus, where the party is holding its elective conference.
The Economic Freedom Fighters was told its 25 MPs would not survive against the majority party in Parliament, he said.
“We went to Parliament and faced the ruling party, and the rest is history... we still say 'pay back the money',” said Mpofu, referring to the R246 million was spent on upgrades at President Jacob Zuma's private Nkandla homestead.
Critics said the elective conference would collapse, but it carried on until the last day, he said.
Mpofu broke into song and faced where Gauteng delegates were sitted.
“Aya sab' amagwala...dubula dubulaaa” (the cowards are running away, shoot them all), he sang.
On Monday night, Gauteng delegates left the hall and protested against the process of nominating additional committee members
