Pretoria - The Economic Freedom Fighters rally at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville west of Pretoria on Sunday will go ahead as planned, the party said on Friday.

“The meeting has approved the event,” said spokesman Mbuyiseni Ndlozi.

The EFF and the City of Tshwane met on Friday to deal with outstanding logistics relating to the rally.

The EFF planned to host a final election rally at the stadium on Sunday.

The city cancelled the EFF application to use the stadium after the party apparently failed to attend a scheduled meeting of the joint operations committee to present its full operational safety and event plans, as required by the Sports and Recreational Events Act.

In terms of the conditions of use and rental of the stadium, all parties are required to provide the city with the appropriate approvals to cover crowd control, emergency medical service on site and transportation, an appropriate security operation plan and disaster management plan, among others.

The EFF took the council to court after it cancelled a provisional agreement concluded with the EFF, on April 23, for hiring the stadium.
