Durban - Eskom on Monday night warned political parties about the dangers of putting election posters on electrical structures.

With voters going to the polls for the local government elections on August 3, Eskom has reminded political parties that putting posters on electrical structures can cause serious injury and even death.

“These structures are carrying live electrical equipment and conductors. When someone gets close to them or touches them, it may result in a flash-over or electrical contact,” Eskom warned.

Only authorised people are allowed to climb or work on the structures.

“Attaching posters to an electrical structure is not only a contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, but also puts the lives of your valuable employees and volunteers at risk. Should someone come into contact with electricity while attaching posters to electrical structures, you will be exposed to litigation, both from a criminal and civil liability point of view.”
