Factionalism was a bad tendency within the ruling party, its secretary general, Gwede Mantashe, said, according to a report on Monday.

He was speaking in Klerksdorp in North West province, where two mayors have been recalled and the regional secretary of the Dr Kenneth Kaunda ANC region has been suspended.

“Factionalism is a problem... we talked about it here a great deal,” Mantashe said, according to an SABC radio news report.

“Factionalism manifests in a number of ways where people become loyal to a grouping instead of the organisation. We are repeating our message over and over, that factionalism is bad for the organisation.

“It is intolerant, it is narrow, it never discusses the organisation, it discusses names of people. It is a bad tendency,” said Mantashe.

The Sowetan newspaper reported last week that police had to use teargas and rubber bullets to disperse a group of African National Congress members who invaded a meeting of the provincial executive committee in Rustenburg.

This meeting was discussing the turmoil in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda region.

Dr Kenneth Kaunda mayor Boitumelo Moloi, his counterpart Maphetle Maphetle of the Tlokwe local municipality, and ANC regional secretary Aubuti Chika were fired by the regional executive committee in January amidst claims of corruption and maladministration. - Sapa

Black people have never been really united. Black on Black Violence occured even before Colonialists pitched up and they just took advantage of this animosity found in tribalism and made it work to their wicked advantage. I think of S-T-O-M-P-I-E S-E-P-E-I who was murdered in cold blood by those whom he thought were comrades in the struggle for freedom of black people. There is no road named after Stompie Sepei; no building; no airport; no stadium; no square; no statue; no nothing...Why? Black on black violence is just as atrocious and despicable as any other violence. No culture of violence can be acceptable nor honourable: it is evil. A white man didn't kill Stompie: it was his 'own' black people who cruelly snuffed out his life like an animal even though he was a hero and the youngest child to be detained without trial by the Apartheid Government at that time. May he rest in peace...

Factionalism is the African way, so now you want to change it! Your main problem is Tribalism, corruption, racism and of course lack of education. So deal with that first.

Look who is talking, history will judge the faction of Gwede Mantashe, Jacob Zuma etc, members left the organisation under their watch. History does not lie, I agree with Joel, you are the architect of factionalism.

Comrade Mantashe, factionalism cannot be a bad tendency. You do remember that when the Zuma faction won in Polokwane it went on to purge members of the ANC who were aligned with former president Mbeki. Eventually the Zuma faction recalled Mbeki from his position as the country's president six months before the end of his term. You actually went to his house to break the news to him. I remember you gloating about it and saying "you cannot say that he was happy to hear the news". Now what ANC members are now doing at branch, regional and provincial levels, they learnt from the best factionalists at national level. So, you cannot tell us that you are surprised. This is a typical case of chickens coming home to roost. When you send out your chickens in the morning you should not be surprised when they come home to roost in the evening. Now, let's wait for the time when you are recalled as ANC S-G and see if you will be happy.

lets face facts - all the nonesense, fraud, corruption, theft, breakdown of race relations, etc all increased exponentially under who's watch and with which youth leader? no rocket science in deciding what to do.

I completetly agree with you comrade Gwede. there are those who think that they are far better that the organisation. they think we should be their followers and not avid members of the organisation. they are characterised by their loose lips. and this pracise will eventually deplete percent of membership.
