Pretoria - The Freedom Front Plus was satisfied with the preliminary number of votes it achieved, party leader Pieter Mulder said on Friday.

“We achieved a seat in the North West, which we did not have before, and did quite well in Gauteng,” he said.

The party managed to clinch new votes while its support base remained loyal, Mulder said.

“We received a large number of black votes in the Western Cape, mainly from minorities who feel that their rights are overlooked,” he said.

The party had received 163 865 votes by 4pm. It garnered 18 746 votes in the North West and 50,852 in Gauteng.

The Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) said final election results would be announced at 6pm on Saturday. A total of 24 822 807 people had registered to vote for this election.
