Johannesburg - The Federal Freedom Party (FFP) on Saturday appointed Barend Pienaar as acting president following the suspension of Hein Boonzaaier earlier this week.

National secretary Francois Cloete said the party's executive council appointed Pienaar as temporary president and Willie Cloete would take over as acting chairperson.

The temporary appointments come after the FFP suspended its president, Boonzaaier, and operational manager Johan Prinsloo on Wednesday.

Boonzaaier and Prinsloo appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, facing treason and terrorism-related charges. They appeared alongside Mark Trollip and Martin Keevy. - Sapa
