Pretoria - Vote counting has begun and the first results were in from South Africa's fifth democratic election on Wednesday, IEC chairwoman Pansy Tlakula said.

“We have our first result in. It is from Umzimvubu in Mount Ayliff in the Eastern Cape.”

There were 148 votes for the ANC, five for the EFF, three for the DA, two for the UDM, and one each for the APC and PAC. The numbers were displayed on the results board at the Electoral Commission of SA's centre in Pretoria.
