Johannesburg - Suspended ANC Youth League spokesman Floyd Shivambu has registered to study a masters degree in politics at Wits University in Johannesburg, the Sunday Sun reported.

“I'm hoping to finish this year,” Shivambu, who had registered as a full-time student, told the paper.

Shivambu was suspended from the ANC Youth League for three years after he was found guilty of misconduct.

Youth League leader Julius Malema, who was suspended along with Shivambu and secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa, was expelled from the organisation.

Shivambu said when he had been a undergraduate student he was heavily involved in student politics. This time his focus would be on academics.

“My relationship with Wits now is in the classroom, library, and then I go home. I no longer take part in student activities; but many students still stop me and ask questions.”

Shivambu said he would consider furthering his studies after he finished his degree.

“If there are no developments in the next year; I'm going to do my PhD, either here or overseas,” Shivambu told the newspaper. - Sapa
