Cape Town - Overberg district municipality mayor Lincoln de Bruyn has opened a case of fraud after two ballot boxes were found in a Grabouw township.
The two boxes, marked with the voting district number 97950011, were found in a house in the township Rooidakke, Grabouw, on Saturday afternoon.
The boxes were removed from the White House voting station in Ward eight of the Theewaterskloof municipality, which is a sub-region of the Overberg district municipality.
De Bruyn, who was told about the matter from an anonymous source, opened a case with Grabouw police on Saturday.
He and four policemen went to get the boxes at the house.
Local Electoral Commission of SA representatives had been informed and the effect on the outcome of voting in Grabouw would be investigated.
According to the official count thus far, the Democratic Alliance's national vote in Ward eight decreased from 383 votes in 2009 to 180 in 2014, and the provincial vote from 391 to 174.
Similarly, the African National Congress's national vote fell from 1339 votes in 2009 to 1289 in 2014 and the provincial vote from 1254 in 2009 to 1090 in 2014.
The provincial DA majority in the Theewaterskloof has decreased from 51 percent to 49 percent. - Sapa
