The National Assembly's ad hoc committee to fill vacancies on the Commission for Gender Equality has finalised its preferred list of candidates for the nine vacancies.

They are Mfanozelwe Shozi, Lulama Nare, Sylvia Desiree Stevens-Maziya, Janine Hicks, Ndileka Eumera Portia Loyilane, Wallace Amos Mgoqi, Nondumiso Maphazi Ranuga, Thoko Mpumlwana, and Professor Amanda Gouws.

In terms of the rules of Parliament, the committee will present its report to the House, which will then adopt or reject the recommendations.

Should the report be adopted, the House will make its recommendations to President Jacob Zuma for the appointment of the commissioners.

Committee chairwoman Ruth Bhengu said on Monday the committee hoped all the names put forward would be endorsed by the House.

The candidates' conduct and responses during the interviews were satisfactory and the committee was pleased with the skills they possessed, she said.

The report is expected to be tabled before the House on February 21, 2012. - Sapa
