Johannesburg - The goverment has urged voters who still need to collect their IDs from Home Affairs offices to do so today, to allow themselves the chance to vote.

Home Affairs offices will be open until 7pm on election day to enable citizens to do this.

“Citizens who have not collected their IDs are urged to collect their documents so that they can cast their votes. The Department of Home Affairs will be open until 7pm, the same hours as the IEC voting stations,” said government acting spokesman Donald Liphoko.

He also urged people to stick to the IEC rules by not taking pictures of their ballot papers.

“Let us be responsible and refrain from taking pictures of marked ballot papers. The rules of the IEC prohibit this as it compromises the secrecy of the ballots,” said Liphoko.

He said government was happy with how the elections were proceeding.
