Hundreds of people, most dressed in white T-shirts with Agang SA printed on them, arrived at the Tshwane Events Centre in Pretoria on Saturday for the official launch of Mamphela Ramphele's party.

Supporters gathered at information tents where they could register as a member of Agang SA while others lounged in the sun in front of a stage erected on the field.

A pamphlet with “Vote for your future. Vote for Agang SA in 2014” highlighted problems facing the country and how the party planned to combat problems such as corruption, jobs, education, healthcare and crime.

“Twenty years is too long to wait for jobs, homes, education, healthcare and safe streets,” the pamphlet read.

Banners saying “Let's Build South Africa” and bunches of blue, red, white, yellow and green balloons adorned the arena.

Ramphele was expected to address the crowd later in the day.

She launched Agang as a political platform four months ago and has spent the time visiting communities around the country. -Sapa
