Parliament – Former Eskom boss Brian Molefe has been sworn-in as an ANC MP on Thursday morning.
This has ended speculation on the date for his swearing-in after Parliament confirmed last Friday he had been nominated as MP.
However, his nomination had sparked divisions in ANC structures in the North West.
Speculation has intensified that Molefe will succeed Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan, but the finance minister has refused to be drawn into the debate on his removal from the National Treasury.
Speaker Baleka Mbete was expected to formally announce Molefe’s swearing-in during Thursday’s sitting of the National Assembly.
Molefe’s nomination has been backed by the Progressive Professionals Forum, which said this week he would add value to Parliament and the Treasury, if he was eventually deployed there.
