Mthatha - A presiding officer at a voting station at Nginza Senior Primary School in Mqanduli near Mthatha was fired by the IEC in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday afternoon after allowing three unregistered voters to cast their votes.

IEC provincial electoral officer Thami Mraji said when they were alerted by a party agent in the station, they looked into the matter.

“Upon investigation, we discovered that the concerned presiding officer was guilty of the conduct. A decision was then taken the presiding officer needed to be dismissed,” said Mraji.

Meanwhile Mraji said that despite the chilly weather in most parts of the Eastern Cape, voting went smoothly in the province.
