Durban - The IFP has officially appointed eThekwini councillor Mdu Nkosi as its new executive committee member.
This appointment comes after two months of waiting for the seat that was, until last Friday, occupied by councillor Patrick Pillay of the MF.
The IFP was supposed to take over the seat after the July 2 by-election when the MF lost Phoenix, ward 53, and Chatsworth, ward 73, to the DA, but owing to delays in council processes, the appointment had been delayed.
On Tuesday, IFP national chairman Blessed Gwala confirmed that the party had appointed Nkosi.
Gwala said that among the reasons for appointing Nkosi were his leadership skills and ability to fearlessly probe corruption in the municipality.
“We believe that he and our other councillors will, together, work hard and hold the municipality accountable,” he said.
However, Gwala said they were still going to pursue the reason for the delay in securing their exco seat.
“We need to know if anyone benefited wrongly and, if they did, they will have to pay the money back,” he said.
