Cape Town - The Western Cape ANC has a new secret weapon as they prepare for the May 7 national elections.

The ruling party is hoping Caribbean-born performer Judy Boucher can sing her way into the hearts of Cape voters.

Boucher, who is famous for hits like Can’t be with you, will be the special quest at the ANC’s event as the Contralesa (Congress of Traditional leaders of SA) Western Cape celebrates 20 years at the Castle of Good Hope.

Other artists include Blue Diamond and Allen the Car Guard.

And the soul diva isn’t ashamed to admit she’s proudly an ANC supporter.

Boucher, who now lives in Europe, landed in the Mother City on Thursday for her seventh visit to the country.

And she said that it is because of public demand.

On Thursday she met with Western Cape ANC chairman Marius Fransman before being whisked off to interviews.

“I am actually a supporter, yes (of the ANC),” she said.

“I’ll support anything that’s good.

“I’ll be performing at the Castle tomorrow (on Friday) and it’s the ANC’s event.”

The diva will be in Cape Town for two weeks.

And it won’t all be singing for her supper. Boucher is also hoping to get in some sightseeing and witness the May 7 elections.

“I’ll be doing some performances but I want to do a bit of sightseeing,” she said.

“I hope to visit the wine route and Waterfront.

“I should be around until May 14 and yes I’ll be around May 7th for the celebration (after the elections).

“People always send me messages on Facebook and ask me to come and do shows. But the Rand is very weak and I live in Europe.

“This is my sixth or seventh time here and each time the people want me back.”

A proud Fransman said that Boucher will be liberating the Western Cape with her music.

“We liberate South Africans through cultural icons and we are now liberating the Western Cape through culture,” he said.

“Look, it is quite exciting, it shows the ANC is imaginative in its campaign.

“We are going to the ground with artists and we’ve also received support from an international artist (Boucher).

“She had a discussion with me and she said she admires our liberation struggle.”

* Boucher will perform at the Castle from 6.30pm on Friday.

She is expected to be in Vredenburg at 2pm on May 3 and then head to Atlantis at 5pm.
