Johannesburg – The Department of Correctional Services has confirmed on Wednesday that PAC struggle hero Kenny Motsamai has been released on parole.

Correctional services spokesman Singabakho Nxumalo said Motsamai was released after the meeting of the parole board on Wednesday.

His release came after a day of drama when there were conflicting reports about whether he has been released on parole or not.

“Yes, he has been placed on parole. Of course, his parole has got conditions,” said Nxumalo.

The release of Motsamai came after he served 27 years in prison for killing a white traffic officer in Rustenburg.

He was trained in countries like Ethiopia during the apartheid days as one of the commanders of the PAC’s military wing Apla.

Apla was involved in an operation in Rustenburg that led to the death of a traffic officer.

The court sentenced Motsamai to two life sentences and 19 years in prison for the murder and robbery.

Last year he was placed on day parole by the department, but Motsamai said he wanted full parole.

On Wednesday he was released from Boksburg Prison and went to his house Katlehong on the East Rand.
