The affordable education loan option
Durban - The KwaZulu-Natal ANC Youth League PTT (Provincial Task Team) has welcomed the appointment of Peggy Nkonyeni as education MEC.
“We are confident that as one of our tried and tested cadres, comrade Peggy has what it takes to continue with the transformation program that has been put in place by the former MEC Cde Senzo Mchunu,” spokesman Sboniso Duma said in a statement.
“As young people of this province, we are happy that the government has put education as one of its key priorities,” Duma said.
“We are indeed fully aware of the fact that for us to attain economic freedom in our lifetime, we must put education in the forefront of our agenda.”
He urged Nkonyeni to work hard to eradicate pregnancy in schools.
“Our message to Cde Peggy is that we do not want to see young people loitering on the streets. She must work tirelessly to curb teenage pregnancy in our schools,” Duma said.
“She must work with all stakeholders to fight against drug abuse and violence in our schools.”
Nkonyeni should continue to advance and implement policy on free education.
“We trust that Cde Nkonyeni will ensure that we achieve the 80 percent pass rate as set by our government.”
Nkonyeni was sworn in by KwaZulu-Natal deputy judge president Achmat Jappie in Durban on Monday.
