Pietermaritzburg - The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government tabled its annual municipal audit outcomes report on Friday, its treasury said.

“2013 has really been a good year for the province as far as our audit outcomes are concerned,” finance MEC Ina Cronje said in a statement.

“The (former) auditor general Terence Nombembe was very complimentary about what we had achieved as a province.”

Even though there were still some problems, the province was extremely pleased with the progress its municipalities had made.

“The bulk of our municipalities' books are sound. Fifty-seven of our municipalities have done extremely well, and congratulations to all our municipalities and our entities,” said Cronje.

“I know that we have been quite tough in our oversight and support, but we really congratulate our municipalities for the good work that they are doing. We are moving in a right direction as a province. Well done.”
