The ANC Youth League's treasurer general Pule Mabe has been removed from his position, the league said on Monday.

“The comrades lost confidence in the treasurer general,” African National Congress Youth League deputy secretary general Kenetswe Mosenogi told reporters in Johannesburg.

“The NEC (national executive committee) resolved to release the TG, Pule Mabe from his duties.” The decision was made at the ANCYL NEC meeting held over two days at the weekend.

Mosenogi said Mabe had not been suspended from the ANCYL, but was no longer the treasurer general or a member of the NEC.

“We have not suspended him.... He's still an ANCYL member.”

The ANCYL called on ANC leaders to intervene in the national disciplinary committee of appeal's decision to expel its leader Julius Malema and suspend secretary general Sindiso Magaqa and spokesman Floyd Shivambu.

“We demand they be reinstated,” Mosenogi said.

“They remain our leaders.”
