ANC Youth League treasurer general Pule Mabe will appeal against a decision to remove him from the league's leadership, he said on Thursday.

He said he would approach the African National Congress leadership to get involved in his dismissal.

He would also ask the ANCYL's national executive committee to review its decision.

Mabe declined to elaborate.

“These steps are all a matter of internal arrangement,” he said.

Mabe was removed from his position on Monday following a vote of no confidence by the NEC.

ANCYL deputy secretary general Kenetswe Mosenogi said at the time Mabe had not been suspended from the league, but was no longer the treasurer general or a member of the NEC.

The decision was made at the ANCYL NEC meeting held at the weekend.

ANCYL spokeswoman Magdalene Moonsamy said she was not aware of any attempt by Mabe to challenge his sanctions.

“I don't know anything about it, and I am not aware of any such appeal.”

On Thursday, Mabe was quoted in the Daily Sun as saying there was still a possibility that the ANCYL general council could reject the NEC's decision.

“It is only the general council of the youth league that can support or reject the decision. Therefore, for now, the committee's decision is only a recommendation,” he said. - Sapa
