Pietermaritzburg - The continuous delay of releasing the report on security upgrades to President Jacob Zuma's private Nkandla homestead is concerning, ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe said on Saturday.

“What we do not want is for the report to be released on February 9, because anyone who does so wants to eclipse the State of the Nation,” he told supporters at the ANC's KwaZulu-Natal manifesto launch in Pietermaritzburg.

Mantashe said Public Protector Thuli Madonsela should follow the footsteps of ministers who released the report last year.

He said the ruling party was against corruption and that was illustrated by many institutions such as the Auditor General, the National Prosecuting Authority and Special Investigations Unit which were clamping down corruption.

He told thousands of party supporters that the African National Congress would continue supporting the structures as long as they continued to do their work.

“When they are out of line though we will express our views and call them to order,” said Mantashe.

He accused Madonsela of leaking snippets of the Nkandla report on the over R206 million upgrade to the media.

He also told supporters that the ruling party would not tolerate corruption in its ranks.

“Our position remains that if an individual is said to be corrupt and is found guilty such a member should step down from a leadership position, and if not the party will remove such an individual.”
