Bloemfontein - Former ANC provincial chairman Ace Magashule claims top ANC national leaders with deep pockets are behind the plot to destabilise the party’s 53rd national conference.

Magashule made the sensational claims on the sidelines of the conference, saying the incoming national executive committee (NEC) would investigate the matter once elected.

Magashule also hinted that he was serving his last term as chairperson of the ANC in Free State, a post he has held since 1992. He indicated that he may not stand when the province elects new leadership next year. The ANC national leadership was forced to disband the provincial executive of Free State, chaired by Magashule, after the Constitutional Court declared its June conference that elected it invalid and unlawful.

Speaking on the sidelines of the conference yesterday, Magashule said a very bad precedent had been set due to the fact that the Free State was at the centre of the chaos in the very province that the party was founded 100 years ago.

“But people who are behind this and the funders of these people who went to court are not coming from this province.

“They are there in the leadership of the ANC outside the province of the ANC. We have facts; it’s just that we don’t want to talk about them. The incoming NEC will investigate this matter. So we’re not embarrassed (as the Free State), we are not surprised,” said Magashule.
