Pretoria - Ronald Lamola is seeking a second bite of the cherry as the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) leader three years after the ANC disbanded its youth wing. And, should he be elected he said he would be open to persuading former ANCYL members who joined the EFF to return.

Lamola served the league as deputy president to Julius Malema during arguably the most chaotic era in its history. He now claims he is motivated to return by the need to represent the youth wing’s “renewal”.

“It must be a dream of every youth in this country to join this structure of the ruling party in order to realise economic freedom in our lifetime,” he said.

The build-up to the Youth League conference scheduled for June 25-28 has already been marred by a dispute in the election of provincial leadership in KwaZulu-Natal.

Lamola will compete with one-time fellow ANCYL executive committee member Pule Mabe) who was last week cleared to run for presidency of the league despite having already turned 35.
