#SONA2016 / Cape Town - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) on Thursday night claimed that their leader, Julius Malema, was the target of a government intelligence plot in Parliament.

EFF MPs made these allegations when they were addressing their supporters in St George’s Mall in Cape Town on Thursday night after they were ejected from the State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered by President Jacob Zuma in Parliament.

Secretary general of the EFF, Godrich Gardee, said the party had intelligence information that Malema has been targeted since May 2014.

“On the 7th of May, 2014, the president (Malema) had to be whisked away due to an intelligence information that he is the target,” Gardee said.

“But I will make sure that he addresses you when there is light, not when it is dark and we are not sure of his safety.”

The party’s chairperson, Advocate Dali Mpofu, echoed Gardee’s assertions, saying Malema would address the EFF Cape Metro branches when the time was right.

“We want to thank you for understanding that our president, based on the information we’ve received, will not be able to address you,” Mpofu said, adding that Malema was not fearing for his life.

EFF MPs walked out of the SONA following an order that EFF leaders leave the Chamber for disrupting the proceedings.

Last year, EFF MPs were physically removed during the SONA when they demanded to know when Zuma was going to pay back the money used for upgrades at his Nkandla private residence.
