Bloemfontein - The 53rd ANC elective conference that was held in Mangaung restored the ANC's image, the party's newly elected treasurer Zweli Mkhize said on Monday.

“We have a good and strong team. We also have young people from diverse backgrounds… the party can widely respond to challenges in the party,” Mkhize said.

He was speaking at a The New Age business breakfast with the rest of the party's top six leaders.

His job was to meet the “friends” of the ANC, and create more friends for the party, said Mkhize.

National chair, Baleka Mbete, said the party was ready to move into the “second transition.”

“We have learnt a lot, made some mistakes, we are now well armed to take South Africa forward”.

The leadership and the policies in place were well poised for the work ahead.

The conference adopted a National Development Plan that would help address poverty and inequality, said ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe.

“The plans such as the NDP plan and an infrastructure development plan are in place to address problems facing our society,” he said. - Sapa
