Cape Town - President Jacob Zuma's State of the Nation address was action-oriented, ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe said on Tuesday.

“It is in line with the plan of the African National Congress from the manifesto to the lekgotla, to the Cabinet lekgotla,” he said outside Parliament.

Zuma's speech outlined a programme setting “clear targets (and) clear steps” to achieve the country's goals.

The speech had “good emphasis on the economy and job creation”, critical to changing the lives of South Africans.

Mantashe praised the plans set out for “catalytic sectors” such as transport, water and sanitation, and energy.
