ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe celebrated his 57th birthday on Thursday.

“The SG as the chief of staff of the administration of the ANC is an inspiration and a pillar of strength to both the political as well as the administrative staff of the ANC. He is a visionary, educator and a revolutionary trend-setter of note,” party spokesman Jackson Mthembu said.

Mantashe was the 14th ANC secretary-general and held a record for being the first trade unionist to be appointed to the board of directors of a JSE-listed company, Samancor.

“The ANC, its leagues, alliance partners as well as the mass democratic movement wish the secretary general all the best on this momentous day.”

Mthembu said the ANC anticipated that Mantashe would continue to offer the country, continent and the world his distinctive leadership and wisdom. - Sapa
