Johannesburg - The Gauteng ANC chairman Paul Mashatile called for unity within the party's provincial structures on Friday evening, Eye Witness News reported.
Speaking at the provincial general council in Pretoria, Mashatile told delegates that they should defend the party's unity and reject those who try and divide them.
He said they should spend the whole weekend engaging on issues of policy, Eye Witness News reported.
“Consistence with the traditions of our movement - we must engage in all the discussion documents before us - robustly and without fear or favour,” Mashatile said.
“Placing only the interest of our movement and our people first.”
The conference is an important build-up to the party's national conference in December. - Sapa
