Johannesburg - African National Congress (ANC) Johannesburg mayoral candidate Parks Tau said he was pleased with voter turn out in the city on Wednesday.

Tau, his wife Pilisiwe and their son Katlego, a first time voter, cast their votes at Randeor High School in Winchester Hills, south of Johannesburg.

Tau had earlier accompanied former president Kgalema Motlanthe and ANC stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in Killarney and Orlando, Soweto respectively.

“People are quite keen to vote, the turnout has been good. I visited six voting stations so far and one is encouraged by the number of people that come out to express their views and auger well for local government,” Tau told reporters after casting his vote.

“We've been out with our [struggle] stalwarts and I think with them coming out to vote, that sends a message that we all have a responsibility to contribute towards our choice who governs our municipalities.”

Tau urged eligible voters who have not yet voted to go and cast their votes before polling stations close.
